FVIDA is a parent-based volunteer association which is registered as a society with the Provincial Government of B.C. It has a Board of Directors which is elected each year at the Annual General Meeting, usually held in September. It is this association which raises funds to host an annual Winter Ceilidh (big, rouding Irish party), sponsor a float in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade which is part of the Vancouver Celtic Festival, produce the yearly Call to Dance show,(tickets are available to the public) as well as helping out with the Sionnaine Irish Dance Academy Awards Day and Dancer's Fun Day. There are always new events added each year, and we always want to hear from the membership whether these are good changes or not. The members of this association are Fraser Valley Irish Dancers and their families.
When the association collects membership dues, this is the first part of the annual fund-raising that helps us host the social events for our members. The subsequent fund-raising endeavors that happen throughout the year, including the Winter Ceilidh, community dance performances and the Call to Dance show are how the FVIDA makes its money. From there, every penny is spent to provide services to our dancers and their families and to advertise the association within the community.(Community demonstrations and parades, such as Canada Day). We are proud to be able to award traveling costs to qualifying dancers who volunteer within this organization and participate in out-of-town competitions. We hope to be able to continue this noble effort long into the future.
The Fraser Valley Irish Dance Association meets each month, excluding July and August. Locations vary, please check the events page for next meeting. Meetings commence at 7:00 p.m. and usually wrap up by about 9 or 9:30 p.m.
